After We Fall

She fell on her way to school
It was an accident
Her mother fell down the stairs
It was an accident
Her father fell on the steps
It was an accident

She was rushing to school
Late for her afternoon class
She forgot her entire purse
And had to drive back
Adding to her lateness
Forgetting about the ice
She wiped out on the cement
Her feet just gave way
And she was laying on her side
Right away she sprang up
A sore hip and dazed head
She never said a word

Her mother was fatigued
But she still got out of bed
Nothing would stop her now
She was going to exercise
When she went down the stairs
At the fourth to last step
She missed it and slid down
Coming to slouch at the bottom
Loudly she screamed
Obtaining everyone's attention
She just laid on the staircase
Waiting for nothing
She went on to complain
About every detail of pain
She won't stop talking
Not until everyone knows

Her father works very hard
But he is often quiet slow
Never rushing at his tasks
One day he was outside
Feeding the birds as usual
After washing the eggs
He started up the steps
A shoe was in his way
He tripped and fell
Landing flat on his face
He yelled something
Laying on the kitchen floor
He just didn't move
It was inconvenient
It was pretty rude
He made a point of it
Made sure that we all knew
That he was the one who fell

Sympathy is not fulfilling
It's pathetic if it is forced
Too much is annoying
Too little is frustrating
We can upset other people
By how we respond
To our pain or our events
We reveal our true self
Every time we fall
